| Instructions for Moving LSA97 to new PC: YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING: 1. RM Cobol -85 Runtime Diskettes 1 and 2. (Liant software green or red and white box). 2. MCAI LSA97 accounting (Phase one diskette) or (Installation diskette 1). You do not need to re-load the update diskettes to the LSA97 program. 3. PKZIP diskette. Supplied with LSA97. 4. Weekly back-up diskette(s) from PC being replaced. BEFORE YOU BEGIN: If you are in Windows 95/98, please test your DOS printing capability: 1. Click on the START button in the lower right corner. 2. Click on Shut Down… in the menu bar. 3. You will be prompted with the menu choices: Stand by, Shut Down, Restart, Restart in MS-DOS mode. Click on the empty button beside Restart in MS-DOS mode and then click OK. 4. You will next see a screen with a c:\WINDOWS> prompt. 5. Turn your printer on and verify that it has paper loaded and is online/ready then at the c:\WINDOWS> prompt type: dir >lpt1 (dir {space} >lpt1) "It will look like this: c:\WINDOWS>dir >lpt1" and then press enter. 6. You should receive a printout of the files in that directory; if you do not receive a printout the PC has a problem with the WINDOWS 95/98 dos mode printing. Contact your hardware vendor before proceeding. 7. If your printer gave you a directory listing in step 6 continue with the installation below. CONFIGURING YOUR SYSTEM FILES: 1. After the above steps, you will have a C:\WINDOWS> displayed on your screen. At the C:\WINDOWS> prompt type: cd\ and press enter. 2. Your display should now look like this: C:\>. 3. At the C:\> prompt type: edit AUTOEXEC.BAT (edit {SPACE} AUTOEXEC.BAT) and press enter. 4. You will see a blue screen with white text. Look for the following two lines in the text: PROMPT $e[1;37;44m$p$g SET PRINTER=LPT1 If the above lines are not listed, using your arrow keys, move your cursor (a blinking underline) to a blank line and type in each of the above lines pressing enter after each line. 5. Once you have entered / verified the above lines hold down the "alt" key (next to the space bar) while holding it down press the letter "F". 6. A menu will drop down under file at the top of the screen. Using your arrow keys highlight save and press enter. 7. Repeat step 5. 8. Choose exit with your arrow keys and press enter. 9. You will be returned to the black screen with the C:\> prompt. Type: edit CONFIG.SYS ( edit {SPACE} CONFIG.SYS ) and press enter. 10. You will see a blue screen with white text. Look for the following lines: DOS=HIGH,UMB SHELL=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND.COM /E:4096 /P FILES=100 BUFFERS=75 DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\ANSI.SYS 11. If (like before) the lines do not exist add them as in step 4. If they exist but are different modify them to match the above. 12. Repeat steps 5 through 8 to get back to the black screen with the C:\> prompt. 13. Now reboot your PC by pressing the reset button on the front. Installing RM COBOL -85 RUNTIME SYSTEM: LSA97 requires the RM COBOL -85 RUNTIME SYSTEM to operate, therefore we need to load it first. RM COBOL is delivered to you in a green and white or red and white box stamped with LIANT RM COBOL on the front. There are two diskettes required to load the RM COBOL - 85 RUNTIME SYSTEM. Have these diskettes ready and perform the following operations: (**NOTE: The following directions are based on version 6.10 of the RM COBOL system but all versions install using the same process/screens.) 1. Click on the START button in the lower right corner. 2. Click on Shut Down… in the menu bar. 3. You will be prompted with the menu choices: Stand by, Shut Down, Restart, Restart in MS-DOS mode. Click on the empty button beside Restart in MS-DOS mode and then click OK. 4. You will next see a screen with a c:\WINDOWS> prompt. 5. At the C:\WINDOWS> prompt type: cd\ and press enter. 6. Insert RM COBOL -85 RUNTIME SYTEM diskette 1 of 2 into floppy drive A. 7. Your prompt will now look like this: C:\>. 8. At the C:\> prompt type: a:install and press enter. 9. You will be prompted with the "Thank you for purchasing" screen and version information. At the bottom of the screen you will see " press [ESC] to quit, or any key to continue…" Press enter to continue the installation. 10. You are now prompted with a "Product Information" screen. The same green box at the bottom will tell you to press any key to continue. Press enter to continue the installation. 11. You will now see a screen informing you that: " This program will install" and it will show the version of COBOL you are installing. Press enter to continue the installation. 12. Now you are asked "Onto which drive would you like to install the RM /COBOL -85 RUNTIME SYSTEM for DOS?" You will see a black menu with the choice DRIVE C: highlighted in white and blinking. Press enter to accept this choice and continue the installation. 13. You are now prompted: "In which directory would you like to install the RM /COBOL -85 RUNTIME SYSTEM for DOS?" A green box with the title "Please enter the subdirectory name:" is displayed and a default entry of "\RMC85" appears within it. Press enter to accept this choice and continue the installation. 14. Next you are asked: "Which parts of the RM /COBOL -85 RUNTIME SYSTEM for DOS do you wish to install?" You will see a black menu with the choice "THE COMPLETE RM /COBOL -85 RUNTIME SYSTEM for DOS YES" highlighted in white and blinking. Press enter to accept this choice and continue the installation. 15. You are now given the message: "Please remember that if the AUTOEXEC.BAT and/or CONFIG.SYS files are modified you will need to restart your machine for the changes to become effective." Press enter to continue the installation. 16. On your screen you should now see files being: Decompressed, Written, and Verified. 17. After a moment you are prompted with another green box: " Please Place the master distribution diskette labeled RUNTIME SYSTEM, DISK 2 of 2 in drive A." Remove disk 1 and insert disk 2. Press enter to continue the installation. 18. On your screen you should see more files being: Decompressed, Written, and Verified. 19. Now you are asked to verify: "May I create/modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT file if needed (Y/N)?" Press the letter Y to continue the installation. (**NOTE: You may be prompted with the screen "NO Changes Necessary" if so just press enter.) 20. Now you are asked to verify: "May I create/modify your CONFIG.SYS file if needed (Y/N)?" Press the letter Y to continue the installation. (**NOTE: You may be prompted with the screen "NO Changes Necessary" if so just press enter.) 21. Now you are asked to remove the diskette in drive A (RM COBOL -85 Disk 2 of 2) and reinsert the Runtime System, disk 1 of 2. After you insert disk 1. Press enter to continue the installation. 22. Finally you receive the message: Installation of RM /COBOL -85 Runtime System for DOS ( it displays the version # ) is now complete. 23. Press enter to finish. Now reboot your computer by pressing the reset button on the front of your PC. INSTALLING LSA97: 1. Click on the START button in the lower right corner. 2. Click on Shut Down… in the menu bar. 3. You will be prompted with the menu choices: Stand by, Shut Down, Restart, Restart in MS-DOS mode. Click on the empty button beside Restart in MS-DOS mode and then click OK. 4. You will next see a screen with a c:\WINDOWS> prompt. 5. At the C:\WINDOWS> prompt type: cd\ and press enter. 6. You should now see a C:\> prompt. 7. Insert the LSA97 Installation/Phase one diskette into drive A. 8. At the C:\> prompt type: a:instal1a ( A:INSTAL1A ) and press enter. 9. On your screen at the top you will see: "Configuring CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT for New LSA97 Software…" You may hear the hard drive grinding as it loads the information. 10. Next you will see the message: "Configuration Completed! Press any key to continue…" Press enter to continue the installation. **NOTE: IF YOU SEE ANY OTHER MESSAGE THAN CONFIGURATION COMPLETED! CALL MCAI. 11. You will be returned to a: C:\LSA97> prompt. Type: cd\ and press enter. 12. Remove the LSA97 Installation / Phase One diskette and ReStart the PC. ( follow steps 1 - 5 to return to the C:\> prompt ) The PC must be rebooted to initialize the changes. 13. Insert the LSA97 Installation/Phase one diskette into drive A again. 14. Now at the C:\> prompt type: a:instal2a ( A:INSTAL2A ) and press enter to continue the install. 15. On the screen you will see " MCAI's Local School Accounting Installation." 16. Next you will be prompted: " Please remove the LSA97 installation diskette and insert the 3 ½" diskette labeled PKZIP into disk drive and press a Key." Remove the LSA97 installation diskette and place your PKZIP diskette into the A: drive. ( PKZIP disk comes with the LSA97 software ) 17. With the PKZIP diskette inserted press enter. You should see "installing PKZIP please wait…" 18. You will next be prompted to remove the PKZIP diskette and insert the LSA97 Install / Phase One diskette once again. Do so and press enter. 19. You should see on the screen: "Copying Programs - Please Wait…" 20. A list of files will scroll up your screen with the notation INFLATING beside them. 21. A message / prompt will follow this which reads: "MCAI Local School Accounting Installation Enter your primary cost center # _ _ _ _ ( Ex. 0020 ) NOTE: If you are responsible for more than one cost center enter zeros for your primary cost center #." 22. The program will have you verify the cost center # by asking on the screen: "Is this correct? (Y / N) 23. Type a "Y" for yes and press enter. 24. You will now see on the screen: " Creating configuration file - Please Wait…" Followed shortly by: " Finishing installation - Please wait…" 25. Next: you are presented with the message: "Please make sure printer is on and ready to print and press any key to continue." 26. If you wish you can print this out it is a document of you PC's configuration settings. If you do not want to print this out, have the printer off and press enter at this message and you will get and error message with abort, retry, fail. Press "F" for fail until it goes away. 27. Finally: you should see "INSTALLATION COMPLETE!" press any key to continue. Press enter to complete the installation. 28. You will be returned to the C:\LSA97> prompt. RESTORING WEEKLY BACK-UP: The final step in this migration process is to restore the data to the new system. You will need the weekly back-up mentioned before. Perform the following steps: 1. As before in the two prior sections; you need to be at the DOS prompt. Steps 1-6 above. 2. At the C:\> prompt type: cd\lsa97 and press enter. 3. Your prompt will change to C:\LSA97>. Type GO and press enter to get to the LSA97 accounting sign in screen. 4. You are prompted to Enter User Id…. Type SYS-ADMIN and press enter. 5. You are then prompted to Enter Password…. Type SYSADM and press enter to get to the System Administrator's menu. 6. The System Administrator's menu which has 8 options. At the bottom you are prompted to Enter Option _ _ . 7. Type 08 ( zero eight ) to choose option # 8 LOAD SITE'S DATA MENU ( CENTRAL OFFICE USE ONLY ). 8. Before proceeding take your weekly back-up diskette(s) and look at the backside of the diskette. You will recognize the back by the silver circle in the middle. In the upper left hand corner you will see a black square with an empty space above it. Using a pen or finger nail slide the black square up into that space ( this write protects the diskette ). 9. Insert the first or only back-up diskette into drive a. 10. The load site's data menu should be displayed on your screen and there is only one option here… LOAD SITE'S DATA ( CENTRAL OFFICE USE ONLY ). Type 01 ( zero one ). The screen may flash here. 11. You should now see the message: "Insert the last disk of the backup set - press any key when ready" Remove disk one and insert disk two and press enter. **NOTE: if you only have one diskette just press enter here. 12. The floppy drive light will come on and the drive will make some noise. You will then be prompted on the screen to "Insert disk #1 - press any key when ready". Press enter. 13. The screen will fill up with Inflating / Extracting messages. These will stop and you will be prompted to "Insert disk #2 - press any key when ready". Remove disk one and insert disk 2. Press enter. 14. The screen will have further Inflating / Extracting messages. The restore will complete. **NOTE: in some restores the system will try to immediately back-up after completing the restore. Abort this by answering (a) to abort if you receive the message: error writing to drive a: (a)bort (r)®etry (f)ail. 15. Exit LSA97. Type: S to stop. 16. You should return to the C:\LSA97> prompt. Type GO and press enter to start LSA97 again. 17. At the Enter User Id… screen log in normally. If you receive a 98,XX make note of the File Name (ex. MFSEUSER ). Type an X ( capital X ) to clear the red screen if this happens. 18. You will return to the C:\LSA97> prompt. To recover the 98,XX error type at the prompt: recover1{ NOTE: this is recover + the numeral one} ( filename ) badfile and press enter. You will be asked: "is this the file you wish to recover?" Press "Y" for yes and enter. 19. Try LSA97 again by typing GO and pressing enter. All should be back to normal. Verify your data and print out a test report. 20.
