Beer Treatment for Brain Injury
According to emergency room doctors, a dose of alcohol may be a viable treatment for people with head injuries. They base this suggestion on the fact that people who suffer a traumatic brain injury are more likely to survive if they were drinking at the time of the injury. Exactly how alcohol protects the brain after trauma is unknown, but it is possible that alcohol minimizes the body’s inflammatory response to injury. Doctors are quick to point out that alcohol also contributes to over 40% of traffic-related fatalities and that people should not use this new information as an excuse to drink more.
